Jamie Furlong Shortlisted for World Maker of the Year 2024 - Australian Wood Review

We’re thrilled to announce that Jamie Furlong has been shortlisted for Maker of the Year 2024 in the World category, a recognition that celebrates exceptional craftsmanship and design on a global stage.

Jamie’s inclusion on the shortlist comes not just for one piece, but two — each entirely distinct, yet united by an obsessive attention to detail, technical mastery, and a commitment to materials-led design.

The Alabaster Chest of Drawers

This sculptural piece pairs spalted beech with hand-carved alabaster drawer fronts — a bold blend of natural texture and refined elegance. Built with a floating appearance and precision-fitted joinery, the chest showcases Jamie’s deep interest in form and the tactile experience of furniture. Subtle curves and intuitive proportions give the piece presence without shouting for attention.

The Yacht Tea Set

Commissioned for a private yacht in the Mediterranean, this bespoke drinks tray and tea box reflect Jamie’s background previously working onboard private yachts. Compact, elegant and exquisitely made, the set is designed to perform in a demanding environment — marrying functionality with fine detail. Each element fits precisely in its place, and the design and marquetry matches the interior of the super yacht it was made for.

Jamie trained at Robinson House Studio under Marc Fish and Theo Cook, and this recognition from the international design community marks a proud moment in his journey.

Based in South Devon and working on commissions across the UK, Jamie continues to collaborate with interior designers, architects, and private clients to create unique, considered pieces for homes, yachts and hospitality spaces.

Congratulations, Jamie — and thank you to everyone who continues to support and share in the work.
