How to commission.

Commissioning a bespoke piece of furniture or custom-made joinery should feel personal, collaborative, and rewarding. Whether you're furnishing a private residence, working on a luxury interior project, or looking for a one-of-a-kind heirloom piece, we tailor every project to your needs from start to finish.

Design

We offer initial design drawings free of charge, including one complimentary revision based on your feedback. If further design development or 3D renders are needed before proceeding, these can be provided for a fee of 10% of the total project value if the commission does not go ahead. All design work remains the intellectual property of our workshop, Jamie Furlong Fine Furniture, unless otherwise agreed.

If you’re already working with an architect or interior designer, we’re happy to work from existing drawings or design concepts to bring your vision to life. This flexible approach ensures each custom furniture project is thoughtfully developed, clearly communicated, and tailored to suit your space.

Materials

We begin each commission with the material — carefully selected British hardwoods that reflect the character and story of the piece. We use timber with natural features like knots, pips, ripple and waney edges, all of which bring life and individuality to the final result.

Rather than asking you to visit the workshop, we're happy to arrange material samples, or, where appropriate, visit the site to understand the setting and help choose timber that complements the architecture and interior style. If you prefer a more uniform or minimal aesthetic, just let us know during the design stage and we’ll tailor the selection accordingly.

Making

Each piece is made to order in our workshop using a combination of traditional joinery and contemporary techniques. This allows us to create customised furniture and tailored joinery that not only fits your space, but also reflects your values and aesthetic. From handmade dining tables to bespoke cabinetry, we take pride in creating timeless, long-lasting work.

Pricing

Once the design and materials are confirmed, we provide a detailed quote. A 50% deposit secures your slot in our production schedule, with the remaining 50% due upon completion.

Payment Plans

On occasion we can offer more flexible payment plans for commissioned pieces upon request. If you'd like to split payments, please let us know and we’ll arrange a schedule that works for you.

Production & Lead Times

Our standard lead time is 12–14 weeks from deposit. If you have a specific deadline — whether for an interior installation or personal milestone — just let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate. We keep clients updated at every stage and will always notify you if timelines shift.
